Interested applicants can apply for either a Clinical Track or a Tenure Track position within the Department of Surgical Sciences. Both tracks are essentially the same with respect to faculty position security and salary, but vary in clinical work load. Tenure Track faculty are expected to develop a rigorous extramurally-funded research program, while Clinical Track faculty are expected to focus on clinical duties and clinical research. Transition from one faculty track to the other can be considered at any time after hire.

Clinical Track distribution of time in clinical practice, teaching, research and service is expected to be in the range of: Clinical practice: 40-50%; Non-clinical teaching 20%; research: 20-30%; service: 10%.

Tenure Track distribution of time in clinical practice, teaching, research and service is expected to be in the range of: Clinical Practice: 20-30%; Non-Clinical teaching: 10-20%; Research: 40-60%: Service: 10%.

Applicants should have a DVM or equivalent and be board-certified or board-eligible in the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM). Completion of a formal ACZM compliant residency program is preferred. An advanced degree (MS, PhD) is desirable and is required for a Tenure Track position.

The Zoological Medicine Section is currently comprised of two clinical track faculty, two clinical instructors and four residents. Clinical track faculty are typically assigned to 17-26 weeks of clinic duty annually, while Tenure track faculty are typically assigned to 12-16 weeks of clinic duty annually. Participation in classroom lecture and laboratory to be equitably distributed across the section. Clinical duties include management of predominately client owned zoological companion animal species through the Special Species Health Service at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, in addition to providing outreach efforts to local zoological and wildlife rehabilitation facilities. The faculty member will supervise, train and mentor zoological medicine residents and fourth year veterinary students in zoological medicine, and provide after hours’ emergency care of patients in collaboration with the zoological medicine residents. Active participation in weekly zoological medicine journal club and exotic animal pathology rounds is expected.

Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, resume/CV, and a document listing three professional references to the websites listed above.
